Anti-Litter/Beautification Campaign leads to Party on the Square 2012


SIXTH ANNUAL GARRARD COUNTY ANTI-LITTER/BEAUTIFICATION CAMPAIGN TO START APRIL 21st  - read exciting details to find out how you can take part & enter to win…

The campaign will run from Earth Day April 21 to June 3. Any group or individual who would like to conduct a public roadside cleanup will be provided trash bags and free disposal by the Solid Waste Department. The first 10 non-profits, churches, ball teams, or other such entities will earn $200 for cleaning 2 miles of public roadway during the campaign. These 10 groups will then be entered into a drawing at the Party on the Square on June 15 to earn an additional $100. There will be two drawings for $100 each and a representative of the group must be present to win. Additionally, any individual or group who assists with a beautification project, such as helping an elderly neighbor plant flowers, haul away junk, etc, will be entered into another drawing to be held at the Party on the Square. Two grand prizes will be given away for individuals or groups assisting with a beautification project.

Sign ups for the 10 non-profits will begin on Monday, April 16. Sign ups will be held on a first come, first served basis. Interested groups should call Solid Waste Coordinator Chris Thomason at 859-339-3233 or email him at chris.thomason@windstream.net. Any groups in addition to the 10 earning $200 for 2 miles of roadway should also contact Chris Thomason to obtain trash bags and information on free disposal.

To be eligible for prizes, participants must either live in or work in Garrard County and be at least six years of age.

Party on the Square Friday, June 15, 2012

NEWS FLASH!! PARTY ON THE SQUARE is back as a stand-alone event and will be Friday, JUNE 15, 2012 - it will not be part of the Rural Heritage Tobacco Festival as reported on February 18th. The Garrard County Solid Waste Committee will be organizing the party and if you would like to volunteer your time or services or make a donation, please call Chris Thomason, Garrard/Lincoln County Solid Waste Coordinator, at 859-339-3233 or e-mail Chris.Thomason@windstream.net. As in each year past, there will be old-fashioned family fun and everything will be free. We hope to see you there and please, help us spread the word.

Party on the Square to change in 2012

Party on the Square is under new leadership and is a new event. It will no longer be a stand-alone community celebration the third Friday in June. It is now called The Garrard County Rural Heritage Tobacco Festival Party on the Square and will be held Friday night during the Festival. Party on the Square June 17, 2011

June 17th (Friday): 5th Annual Party on the Square
Garrard County invites folks from neighboring counties and beyond to come to The Party on the Square. The Party on the Square is part of Garrard's Annual Anti-Litter/Beautification Campaign that starts May 1st of each year (since 2007) and ends with The Party on the Square on the third Friday in June in downtown Lancaster, thanking those who participated in the campaign; celebrating with live entertainment, dancing, food, games, prizes and give-a-ways. EVERYTHING IS FREE. All that's asked of guests is that they bring a lawn chair and invite a friend.

Campaign lead-in to Party on the Square June 18th


Garrard has anti-litter campaign

LANCASTER — Garrard County’s fourth annual Anti-Litter/Beautification Campaign began May 1 and will continue through June 18, ending with the Party on the Square in Lancaster from 7-10 p.m.
The campaign promotes litter clean-up and beautification in Garrard County and encourages personal commitment and community pride.
Individuals or groups can participate by wearing green campaign T-shirts (or just something green) on Mondays or casual Fridays during the campaign. Anti-litter T-shirts are available at Linda’s Custom Sports Apparel in Lancaster.
Other ways individuals or groups can participate include picking up litter, cleaning up a roadside, parking lot or walking trail, planting flowers or trees or beginning to recycle.
For suggestions of roads or specific clean-up areas, call Garrard/Lincoln Solid Waste Director Chris Thomason at (859) 792-3821 or (859) 338-3233. To clean on public property, ask Thomason about free garbage bags and pickup service. Check with Thomason with any questions about disposal of trash and recycling.
Anyone participating in the campaign who is age 6 or older and works or lives in Garrard County can enter the drawing at the Party on the Square. Prizes include $100, a Herrington Lake Marina one-day pontoon boat rental, a one-night stay at a Kentucky State Park lodge, two Belle of Louisville tickets, a Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center gift basket and a pair of gifts from the Lancaster Higher Education Center.

Miss Teen America 2010 to Sing at Party on the Square



Katie Himes, Miss Teen America 2010, will sing at Party on the Square in Lancaster, June 18th. This will be Katie’s second appearance at Party on the Square. Last year, as reigning Miss Kentucky Teen America, she sang for us and we’re so pleased to welcome her back.


Katie will be performing one number in the 8:35 - 9:05 PM set.

Kentucky Wild Horse to play at Party on the Square


KENTUCKY WILD HORSE (Acoustic/Roots Music/Bluegrass Band from Owenton, KY), to play on AgCredit’s WoodSongs Festival Stage at “Party on the Square,” June 18th. They’ll be following our tradition by playing line-dance music, will add some clogging, and make the party a night of toe-tapping, foot-stomping, great dancing fun for the whole family. First set at 7:50 P.M.

AgCredit's WoodSongs Festival Stage coming to Party on the Square


AgCredit's WoodSongs Festival Stage is coming to Party on the Square June 18th, featuring bluegrass & folk musicians from Central Kentucky. All have either played at WoodSongs Home-Town Radio Hour or are in line to. Forty-minute sets start at 7:50 PM & 9:05 PM.

Miss Kentucky Teen American 2010 Wesley Ware to sing at Party on the Square



Miss Kentucky Teen America 2010 title holders will be our guests at the Party on the Square this year, Friday, June 18th. We'll meet them at 8 PM in front of the courthouse and reigning Queen Wesley Ware will be singing Taylor Swift’s “Hey Stephen”, accompanying herself on guitar. Plans are underway for our Party on the Square 2010, a night when the whole community comes together to thank those who participated in our Fourth Annual Anti-Litter/Beautification Campaign, to look forward to a year of growing community spirit, and to just have a great, old fashioned block party.

EVERYTHING IS FREE. Nothing is sold.
There’s laughter and hugs, seeing friends you haven’t seen in a long time; a chance to talk about “old times” and to make new memories… there’s something for everyone: 1) Live music and line dancing in front of the courthouse, 2) An art show and crafts to make in the library quadrant, 3) Games for the young and the young at heart in front of Whitaker Bank, and 4) food (all-beef hotdogs, drinks, dessert, popcorn) served in our food court in front of First Southern National Bank.
Mix with this some great booths and you have an evening of clean, wholesome family entertainment…
We’ll have the Anti-Litter/Beautification campaign drawings at 9:45 p.m. on the courthouse steps.
