Paint Lick VillageFest October 10th

The Annual Paint Lick VillageFest will begin at 10 a.m. this year…

There will be no fee to set up a booth and vendors can set up on the Sportsman's Club grounds (in Paint Lick) on a first-come, first-served basis (beg. at 8 a.m.) with a limit of a 20x20 space to allow for as many vendors as possible. Yard sale and flea market items are acceptable, but we'll also have crafts, jewelry, and antiques.

We'll have free activities for children, live music, and opportunities to meet and greet new and old friends.

Inside the Sportsman's Clubhouse, the Friends of Paint Lick will hold a soup-bean lunch (also known as dinner in the country) from 11 a.m. until we run out. Menu includes soup beans, hot dogs, chips, desserts, and drinks.

There will be a Fish Fry from 4-5:30 PM. (For details, see listed on this blog) Events: October 2009: Paint Lick Sportsman's Club's Annual Fish Fry October 10th.

Friends of Paint Lick also will hold a raffle inside the clubhouse; selling tickets until about 3 p.m. at which time we'll hold the drawings outside.

Kentucky Chautauqua presents: Abraham Lincoln: “I, too, am a Kentuckian”

The Rural Heritage Festival Chautauqua Brunch is Saturday, September 19th, 10:30 AM, Lancaster Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 211 Stanford St., Lancaster.

The brunch is sponsored by the Festival and the Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Kentucky Humanities Council.

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) was born on a farm in what is now LaRue County, KY. When he was 7, his family moved Indiana, and later Illinois.

Jim Sayre of Lawrenceburg portrays Abraham Lincoln for Kentucky Chautauqua and he will perform following the 10:30 AM brunch.

Kentucky Chautauqua – living history dramas that have now brought to life more than 50 figures from Kentucky’s past – is an exclusive program of the Kentucky Humanities Council Inc. Chautauqua characters have told their stories to nearly 500,000 people in every Kentucky County. Support for Kentucky Chautauqua is provided by a National Endowment for the Humanities We the People grant, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Lexington Fayette-Urban County Government, Peoples Bank & Trust Company of Hazard, Brown-Forman Corporation, Union College and Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America Inc.

Brass Band Concert

The Advocate Brass Band of Danville, Kentucky, will give a concert at the Governor William Owsley House in Lancaster on Sunday, September 27th, starting at 4:30 p.m. The concert is sponsored by the Advocate Messenger of Danville.

The band will be playing marches as well as other popular music scored for brass instruments.

There is no admission charge. Please bring a folding chair or blanket and a picnic dinner to enjoy if you'd like. This is going to be a lovely community gathering and we hope to see you there.

The St. William Catholic Youth Group will be selling drinks and pastries.

Competitive Trail Challenge

American Competitive Trail Horse Association’s Competitive Trail Ride Challenge comes to Garrard County on Saturday, October 17th.

Take a two to three hour ride along seven miles of trails with ten judged obstacles.

Overnight camping is available.

Over $525 in cash plus other prize awarded. Several divisions.

This ride benefits Rescue Horses and partial proceeds go to benefit The Garrard County 4-H Horse Program.
